Sensitization Program for Faith Based Institutions
on HIV/AIDS Care & Support and Stigma

FBOs are rooted in local structures and are therefore in an excellent position to mobilize communities to respond to the HIV/AIDS crisis. In many cases, religious organizations and people of faith have been among the first to respond to the basic needs of people affected by the disease, and indeed have pioneered much of the community - based work. More often than not, the capacity of FBOs has not been maximized because they have not received adequate levels of training to meet the challenges posed by the HIV/AIDS Pandemic.

APAC has conceptualized a short training program for religious Institutions, religious leaders and faith - based organizations to initiate openness and dialogue among the FBOs, develop a plan of action and strategies to cater to the needs of the people living with HIV/AIDS in the state of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry.

APAC - VHS in collaboration with Tamilnadu Bishop Council is organizing advocacy and sensitization program for their 17 Dioceses in Tamilnadu and Pondicherry. The SOFID (Society for Family Integrity and Development) organization as part of the Family and Health commission of TNBC is implementing the program. Out of the total 17 Dioceses 4 Dioceses have been covered.
